Roxbury Community Council is established.

Its purpose is “to provide an opportunity for its members to consider together matters of community interest and arrange for appropriate action,” the group initially serves as the urban renewal planning committee for the neighborhood. That responsibility is assumed by the Community Organization Steering Committee, whose members are chosen principally by officials at Freedom House, in Spring 1961.
